Plant cells are eukaryotic cells or cells with membrane bound nucleus. Plant anatomy is the study of plant tissues and cells in order to learn more about the way these organisms are constructed and how they work. These studies are very important because they lead to a better understanding of how to care for plants and fight plant diseases. Plant anatomy is also known as phytotomy.
The most important distinctive structure of plant cell from that of animal cell is the presence of the cell wall outside the cell membrane. It forms the outer lining of the cell. The cell wall mostly constitutes of cellulose and its main function is providing support and rigidity. Plants cells also contain many membrane bound cellular structures. These organelles carry out specific functions necessary for survival and normal operation of the cells. There are a wide range of operations like producing hormones, enzymes, and all metabolic activities of the cell.
A plant being a complex structure consists of a number of parts which constitute the whole plant. Most plants contain three basic members. These members include the roots, stem, and leaves. The roots take in water and nutrients from the soil and transport them. The stem functions for support and transfer. The leaves function to photosynthesize and feed the plant with nutrients. The other parts include flower, seeds and fruits.
